Often described as a cleanse, a detox is a great way to reignite your mental, physical, and spiritual health while giving your body some much needed time to rest and recover. While it is important to remember that a detox should not be seen as a ‘quick-fix’ solution to heal your body, it is a great way to kick-start your health journey and will make eliminating unhealthy foods and products from your body and life easier than expected.

Focusing on wholesome, fresh and clean foods and drinks is the fastest way to kickstart your health and often , it only requires about 3-5 days of focus and change to see major benefits. If you are interested in doing a detox, then be sure to read our tips below to help you start and stick to your detox with ease!

Think about why you want to detox

Before embarking on your detox, think about what it is that you want to achieve. Is it mental clarity, an increased amount of energy or to simply improve your health? It is also wise to think about how long you plan on staying on the detox so that you can plan and prepare ahead, including getting the correct supplements, buying enough groceries and even meal-prepping! However, one of the most important things to do before detoxing is to talk to your doctor or health-care professional to ensure that you are doing the correct detox for your body – especially if you have any underlying health issues like diabetes, cholesterol, or chronic pain.

Why you should consider a detox

Detoxing not only helps to reset your body but can be a vital step in making lifelong improvements to your health, diet and mental wellbeing. Detoxing is also a great way to reduce stress in your home (particularly around food) and is often the first step to take when diagnosed with a chronic health condition. Detoxing has been proven to work for many health issues like diabetes, PCOS, stress management and weight-loss. Some of the things that you might notice when embarking on a detox is an increase in energy levels, brighter skin and eyes, less frequent headaches and even less body aches and pains.

Start in your kitchen

Whether it’s 21 days or even 1 day, a detox can last for as long as you need it to and one of the fastest ways to start is right in your kitchen! Throw out anything with sugar, foods that are highly processed or high in carbohydrates as these are often the kinds of foods that cause a mental and physical slump if over indulged upon. You can also take it a step further by deep cleaning your fridge and freezer and chucking out (or giving away) any frozen savories, frozen breads, and ice cream! This is a great way to prepare yourself for your detox as it will be easier to stick to your detox by not having these addictive products and foods in your home.

Once your fridge and freezer are cleaned out, head to the shops and get some organic fruits and vegetables and stock up on bottles of fresh spring water to make your transition to healthy eating as easy as can be.

Detox your home

Detoxing is not only limited to your body and the food you eat but can transcend to your home and surroundings as well. If you are serious about changing your environment towards a healthier, non-toxic lifestyle, then we suggest going as chemical-free as possible.

Chemicals in the home can cause many health disruptions such as hormone problems, skin conditions and can even affect fertility in the long run, therefore, it doesn’t really help to just focus on your diet with a detox if you are surrounded by a myriad of other chemicals and toxins.

Start by getting non-toxic bath and body products like washing powder and liquids, hand wash and dishwashing liquid. This is an easy way to start as non-toxic cleaning and household products are often more affordable than beauty products. While we know that it is not as easy as it sounds to cut out plastic, limiting your usage of plastic in your kitchen and home will make a world of difference. We suggest reusable cotton bags for grocery and vegetable shopping and using beeswax or glass storage containers with lids instead of cling-wrap.

While there are many detoxes out there, it all comes down to what you are comfortable with. Whether you want to start by cutting out animal products or focusing on a juice cleanse, make sure that whatever you do works for your family and lifestyle.

How to supplement your detox

While you can very often get the essential minerals and vitamins from your diet, it is quite hard to ensure that you are supporting your body correctly just through food. We suggest getting a few supplements to help your detox go smoothly and keep your body working in optimal condition.

Liver detox – AVALIFE™ Liv D-Tox is a robust herbal combination for liver health and detoxification. Containing Milk Thistle, Aloe Vera, Turmeric extracts and other beneficial ingredients, this product helps to empower the metabolic capacity of your liver and supports the liver’s natural ability to eliminate toxins from the body. This is an essential product to take while on a detox as liver support is essential when your body goes through changes, because the liver is an important organ when it comes to food digestion and bile production, helping to rid the body of toxic substances.

Bowel Clear – another important product to help you on your detox journey is the AVALIFE™ Bowel Clear. Created using the goodness of Gutgard®, a unique Liquorice root extract, a differentiated active ingredient, Bowel Clear is designed to help with occasional constipation and indigestion. Stress, lifestyle, not eating enough fibre, and the use of medication can be some of the many reasons that cause so many people to suffer from daily or occasional constipation which can often happen when one is detoxing. Therefore, having a healthy digestive tract and normal bowel function is an important way to support your body and keep you feeling good!

Flora Restore – It is common knowledge that taking a probiotic is a great way to help strengthen the gut and keep your body working in perfect order. AVALIFE™ Flora Restore is a symbiotic blend of pre and probiotics where each capsule contains 1 billion Colony Forming Units (CFUs).

The human gut is more complex than previously thought and has a huge impact on your entire body’s health. A healthy gut contributes to a strong immune system, heart health, brain health, improved mood, healthy sleep, and effective digestion. A healthy gut also communicates with the brain through nerves and hormones, which helps maintain general health and well-being.
