As the winter season approaches, staying healthy and keeping those pesky winter viruses and infections at bay becomes a top priority. While there are plenty of ways to boost your immunity, one effective and delicious option is including smoothies into your daily routine. Smoothies are easy to make, packed with nutrients, and can be adapted according to your taste and preferences.

In this blog, we’ll explore the health benefits of berries and share an easy-to-make, immune-boosting smoothie recipe that will keep you energized throughout the day.

Smoothies are a great way to pack in a variety of fruits and vegetables in one go. You don’t need to follow a strict recipe either, as you can throw in whatever you have in your fridge or pantry. For instance, if you don’t have yoghurt, you can add milk or just fruits and veggies. One great antioxidant-rich combination is adding berries to your smoothie – particularly blueberries, cranberries, strawberries, and an apple or banana for an extra nutrient boost.

Berries, in general, are an excellent source of nutrients and antioxidants. Antioxidants can help prevent chronic diseases, reduce inflammation, and improve overall health. Blueberries, in particular, are known for their brain-boosting properties, thanks to the presence of anthocyanin that can improve memory and cognitive functions. The flavonoids found in berries also help improve circulation and reduce the risk of heart disease. Additionally, as they contain fibre, they can help regulate blood sugar levels and improve digestion while preventing constipation.

To enjoy the benefits of berries, we have an easy and healthy smoothie recipe that you can enjoy at home.

  • 1 x large, chopped banana
  • 1 teaspoon of peanut butter or honey depending on your taste
  • 100g fresh or frozen blueberries
  • 100g fresh or frozen cranberries
  • 50g fresh or frozen strawberries
  • 400ml any milk (Diary or plant-based) or even a dash of yoghurt
  • Add a scoop of berry flavour protein for that extra bit of deliciousness

Add all the ingredients to your blender and blend for a couple of minutes, check the mixture for lumps, if there are a few lumps blend for another 20 seconds, pour and enjoy.
